Each artwork is comprised of intergalactic elements that emit a symphony of tones, inspired by three of the six immersive rooms in my interactive exhibition CASCADE, currently on view at The William Vale in Brooklyn. You can register to bid here.

Drip Cascade is a psychedelic waterfall of colors and patterns that ooze down in my signature style. Animation by David Lewandowski. Sound by Charlie Scovill.

Portal  is a spinning vortex, inspired by enigmatic black holes, which creates the sensation of flying through another dimension. Animation by TJ Pulliam. Sound by Jamie Vance. See full animation here.

Kaleidoscopic Waterfall presents a morphing puddle of kaleidoscopic mandalas which liquify, slide, swirl, and congeal into an amorphous hallucination. Animation by Christopher Rutledge. Sound by Jamie Vance. See full animation here.

COSMOS: Debut Collection with Foundation

Last week marked the momentous launch of Cosmos, my debut NFT collection with Foundation. The full series consists of 60 unique pulsing animations, known as microcosms and macrocosms. Each Wednesday at 3pm EST, Cosmos will drop a new set of 12 shapes through Foundation from now until October 27th. Each NFT in the collection was inspired by intergalactic elements from the Space Junk room in my solo show Cascade, up now in NYC. Animation and sound by CutMod.

Jen Stark: Dimensions

“My world is called Dimensions because I wanted to showcase artists with more sculptural work, who create their own universes. The artwork in the collection typically has an emphasis on 3D modelling, sculpture, ceramics, VR/AR, rendered environments and animation. Each artist is creating their own fantasy world through their art.”

Some of my favorites:

Deep Gradient by Emilio. “I love how he transforms such a common action (closing a computer window) into a gorgeous piece of artwork. It turns a common, everyday task into something extraordinary.”

Candid Spirit by Lloyd Wright. “Lloyd creates beautiful fantasy worlds that he sees in his dreams. This one is inspired by magical realism and the ancestral representation of spirits. I love how mysterious yet beautiful it is.”

Going to the Store by David Lewandowski. “Dlew is such a creative artist and animator. His work is at the same time magical and sublime. I love how quirky and creative his worlds are.”

Cosmic Connection at citizenM Miami

I am excited to announce my newest & largest public art installation, “Cosmic Connection,” at citizenM Hotel Miami Brickell. You can see it at 955 S Miami Ave, Miami, FL 33130.

To mark the brand’s arrival in Miami, citizenM has commissioned Miami native and Los Angeles-based artist Jen Stark to create a permanent, site-specific artwork on the property’s exterior. Like many of the vivid works for which she is known, Stark’s Cosmic Connection examines the intricate layers of the natural world through pattern and color. The original façade artwork—citizenM’s largest installation to date—will be unveiled in July.

Stark imagined citizenM Miami Brickell as a blank canvas, creating different works for each façade. Each side of the building showcases a composition that stands on its own, but the pieces also come together to harmoniously form one artwork. A third-generation Miamian, Stark drew inspiration from the city’s colors, underwater sea life, and the cosmos. The bright hues, the vibrant and energetic feel, and the movement of the piece epitomize citizenM’s innovative and playful brand personality.

“I was really excited to see these two-dimensional drawings come to life as a three-dimensional sculpture. I love the transformation from 2D to 3D, and this installation is riffing on that idea,” shares Stark. “When the pieces come together, it becomes sculptural.”

Jen Stark x SuperRare Debut NFT: “Mandala”

I am pleased to announce my debut SuperRare NFT drop. You can see the minted piece here and their editorial feature on me here. The work will go live for a 24 hour auction on Wednesday April 14th 12pm pst.

Through a myriad of colorful patterning and vibrational phases, “Mandala” reveals the infinite cycle of the universe. These sacred geometric forms portray a metaphysical representation of the cosmos. Each layer moves inwards and outwards forever in a looping cycle of creation and re-creation. This meditative work embraces the structure of plant growth, infinity, and hypnotic mysticism.

Light the Night

I am happy to have participated in Light the Night, a group exhibition of animations from South Florida artists from March 1st to 7th, 2021.

My animations Bloom, Mandala, and Streaming Gradient were projected onto NSU Art Museum, Broward County Government Center and Society Las Olas along with artists such as Agustina Woodgate, Jen Clay, Edison Peñafiel and Monica Lopez de Victoria. This art initiative is presented by Broward Cultural Division and executed by MAD and curator Sofia Bastidas Vivar.

The Visual Experience

I am pleased to announce my Ft. Lauderdale mural, Acid Free, makes an appearance in a new art textbook. The Visual Experience is a comprehensive visual art curriculum for grades 9–12 that integrates art criticism, aesthetics, art history, and art production. This 4th edition textbook is distributed throughout North America.

“Making changes to a space by adding unexpected or unassociated images or objects is one way that an artist might recontextualize institutional architecture. Jen Stark’s mural at the Ft. Lauderdale Museum of Art includes brightly colored layers with lines that create the illusion of dripping paint. These colors and lines contrast sharply with the monochromatic urban landscape. Stark recontextualizes the space by bringing bright color and organic lines to a neutral, geometric space.”

Public Art Terrazzo Floor Install in Jackson Hospital

I was recently awarded the opportunity to design a large scale public art installation titled “Cosmic Growth” located inside Jackson Memorial Hospital Rehabilitation Center in Miami, Florida. This custom terrazzo floor spans over 15,000 sq ft. This project began in 2018 and was completed by early 2020.

Artist Jen Stark’s grand-scale, monumental artwork incorporates terrazzo floors within the facility’s main lobby, cafeteria, north hallway, second floor and each of nine elevator lobbies. Driven by the artist’s interest in hypnotic visual systems that evoke such concepts as evolution, infinity, fractals, and mimetic topographies. Stark’s optical designs are also inspired by mandalas and sacred geometry. For this particular work, Stark responds to the cognitive and neurological connections within human bodies and their action of healing and growth. Stark’s body of work often resembles organic, molecular, cloud-like structures, and are imbued with kinetic, undulating effects that serve to dislocate the viewer from reality into an immersive realm of echoing patterns. Each new layer is shaped by the last one, morphing and constantly changing.

This artwork is part of the collection of Miami-Dade County Art in Public Places program, made possible with the support of the Art in Public Places Trust, the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs and the Cultural Affairs Council, the Miami-Dade County Mayor and Board of County Commissioners. miamidadepublicart.org
