New Podcast Interview: nft now

The nft now podcast recently interviewed me about NFTs & how they changed my life as a traditional artist. Listen & watch below:

Jen Stark is a mixed media and NFT artist who broke records in March 2021 for being the first female artist to enter Foundation’s top 10 selling creators. For the past fifteen years, she’s worked with a variety of mediums to bring her mesmerizing paintings, sculptures, and animations to life. She’s collaborated with brands like Apple, Google, Vans, MTV, and Smashbox, and even launched a 6,000 sq. ft. immersive installation, “Cascade” in 2021. Her first generative NFT collection, “Vortex,” made its debut in December 2021, immortalizing her signature paper sculpture style on the blockchain. Though she came from the traditional art world, Stark believes that NFTs have changed her life and will be the new avenue of art history.

In this episode we cover:
- How NFTs allow artists to better connect with collectors
- How the traditional art world views NFTs
- Her advice for other artists
- Equitable representation in the NFT space
- Art in the metaverse - And much more!

King Kong Magazine Cover Art, Issue 12

So honored to celebrate the amazing Kip Thorne for King Kong Magazine’s “Kings & Queens” Issue 12, Autumn/Winter 21.

Kip Thorne is a Nobel Prize winning astro-physicist with a passion for using art and science as a way of communicating his work. His work reaches out from the university laboratory to Hollywood and beyond. His groundbreaking work into Black Holes is both awe-inspiring and yet he manages to help us relate to their importance through fact and almost magic. The fact is the magic is in the facts themselves.

Vortex: Generative NFT Collection on Art Blocks

I am pleased to announce my newest NFT collection, Vortex.

My first Art Blocks Curated project is an interactive, generative NFT collection featuring 1000 iterations coded with specific parameters regarding color palette, edge details, number of layers, tunnel styles, and more. Each Vortex is created upon minting by the collector. You can see examples of vortexes generated during the testing phase below. For more information on the project, visit jenstark.com/vortex.

Bidding starts Monday, December 13th, 2021 at 10am PT/1pm ET on the Art Blocks platform.

The phenomena of the spiral is located throughout the natural world, found in everything from nautili and galaxies, to fractals and sacred geometries. Much like the gravitational pull of patterns in the universe, Jen Stark's series of generative vortexes pays homage to the intricate systems present in our daily lives.

Drawing upon the aesthetic practice of her signature paper sculptures, Stark's hand-cut techniques are translated to adapt and evolve within the digital realm through code, brought to life through harmonic sine waves.

Jen Stark: Light Spectrum at Wilding Cran Gallery

I am pleased to announce my latest solo exhibition at Wilding Cran Gallery in Los Angeles...

Light Spectrum
Nov. 13 - Dec. 23, 2021

Featuring new vibrant, multi-layered, psychedelic works ranging from sculpture and painting to light installation and interactive animation, Light Spectrum aims to conceptualize the mysterious visual systems of pattern, light, and color that govern our everyday lives. You can learn more about the exhibition here.

“My work focuses on the exploration of color theory through light and juxtaposing pigments. I'm interested in how light can be invisible to the naked eye, while at the same time containing a variety of colors. Everything around us, including ourselves, holds an entire rainbow of color.”

Cascade Show on Cool Hunting

Cool Hunting featured my latest solo show Cascade on their website.

“Extended through 7 November, the immersive exhibition Cascade: A Jen Stark Experience populates 6,000 square feet of space at Williamsburg, Brooklyn’s The William Vale with swirling rainbow patterns, charming projection-mapped icons, dripping and drizzling digital walls and so much more. Stark’s four uniquely artistic rooms and two moving murals come to life thanks to cutting-edge technology. Produced by Art Market Productions in partnership with Joshua Liner Projects and United Talent Agency, the dazzling endeavor begins with Flavor Paper wallpaper and ends with a gallery of fine art pieces and a gift shop that includes accessible Stark merchandise. In between, the LA-based visual artist’s mesmerizing work—along with contributions CutMod, animator Christopher Rutledge, CG artist TJ Pulliam, Jamie Vance, artist and filmmaker David Lewandowski and sound designer Charlie Scovill—yields a tremendous sense of awe and discovery for individuals of all ages.”

Jen Stark: Dimensions

“My world is called Dimensions because I wanted to showcase artists with more sculptural work, who create their own universes. The artwork in the collection typically has an emphasis on 3D modelling, sculpture, ceramics, VR/AR, rendered environments and animation. Each artist is creating their own fantasy world through their art.”

Some of my favorites:

Deep Gradient by Emilio. “I love how he transforms such a common action (closing a computer window) into a gorgeous piece of artwork. It turns a common, everyday task into something extraordinary.”

Candid Spirit by Lloyd Wright. “Lloyd creates beautiful fantasy worlds that he sees in his dreams. This one is inspired by magical realism and the ancestral representation of spirits. I love how mysterious yet beautiful it is.”

Going to the Store by David Lewandowski. “Dlew is such a creative artist and animator. His work is at the same time magical and sublime. I love how quirky and creative his worlds are.”
