The Visual Experience

I am pleased to announce my Ft. Lauderdale mural, Acid Free, makes an appearance in a new art textbook. The Visual Experience is a comprehensive visual art curriculum for grades 9–12 that integrates art criticism, aesthetics, art history, and art production. This 4th edition textbook is distributed throughout North America.

“Making changes to a space by adding unexpected or unassociated images or objects is one way that an artist might recontextualize institutional architecture. Jen Stark’s mural at the Ft. Lauderdale Museum of Art includes brightly colored layers with lines that create the illusion of dripping paint. These colors and lines contrast sharply with the monochromatic urban landscape. Stark recontextualizes the space by bringing bright color and organic lines to a neutral, geometric space.”
